Magnessium and Hydrochloric Acid essays
Magnessium and Hydrochloric Acid essays In this investigation I am trying to find out whether or not the concentration of hydrochloric acid affects the rate of reaction. To do this we are going to make up different concentrations of hydrochloric acid starting with 100% and working our way to 20%. I predict that as the concentration of the hydrochloric acid increases then the yield of hydrogen also increases as the reaction continues. I have predicted this, as there are many reasons behind increasing the rate of hydrogen being produced by this reaction between magnesium and hydrochloric acid. The rate of reaction depends on how many successful collisions there are between the acid (hydrochloric acid) and the metal, which, in this experiment is magnesium. This can be explained by the collision theory. The basic idea, behind this, is that particles have to collide, and collide hard enough in order for a reaction to take place. One of the factors that determine the rate of reaction is the temperature of the substance, which is being analysed. When the temperature is increased, the particles move more rapidly. If they are moving faster, they are going to have more collisions between the acid and magnesium. Another method of increasing the rate of reaction is to make the solution more concentrated, this means there are more particles of reactant moving about between the acid molecules which makes collisions between the important particles more likely. In addition to this increasing the surface area can increase the rate of reaction. This means the particles surrounding the magnesium in the acid solution will have more area to work on so there will be more collisions that are useful. I found the information on the collision theory on the Internet. The websites I used were www.s-cool.co.uk and www.bbc.co.uk/learning The product after this experiment is hydrogen and magnesium chloride. The equation to show this is: - Magnesium + hydrochloric acid Magn...

The Australia government and trade unions policies of teaching skills Essay - 1
The Australia government and trade unions policies of teaching skills shortage - Essay Example Changes in technology have greatly affected the education sector with most of the trained teachers leaving the profession to join other professions hence causing shortages in the sector. Most graduates who have trained as teachers have joined freelance employments such as online academic writing and research writing that are flexible and less restrictive in terms of qualification and experience and also pay well as compared to teaching. Although the introduction of new technology and changes in the existing ones due to changes in industries in the country have contributed to shortages in teaching skills, changes in attitudes of the students towards teaching have been cited as the main cause of the shortages. Most candidates in Australia regard teaching as a professional that is not favorable in terms of income or social status thus have resorted to venture in other sectors hence causing shortages in teaching sector. Both those who are joining colleges to train as teachers and those who have trained as teachers, shy away from the profession claiming that it pays less as compared to other professions and holds low social status in the society. Therefore, this has escalated the problem in the country and has made the government initiate or put down solutions to curb the shortage. Due to a lot of pressure from stakeholders in the education sector, the Australian government has been forced to increase its level of immigr ation to help deal with the critical shortages in the teaching sector.

Aldous Huxleys Brave New World and the Movie Gattaca - Genetic Enginee Essay
Aldous Huxleys Brave New World and the Movie Gattaca - Genetic Engineering and Its Effects on People - Essay Example On the other hand, Gattaca by Niccol seeks to present a biological vision whereby in the future, liberal eugenics drives the society through the selection of potential children through pre-implantation genetic processes. Through this envisioned process, best hereditary traits of the parents are maintained and passed down to their children while comparatively vague traits undergo elimination. Most importantly, the movie shows concern on the effects and consequences of the reproductive technologies that facilitate eugenics. Evidently, both Brave New World by Aldous Huxley and Gattaca by Andrew Niccol seek to enhance and adapt the engineering advancements allowing genetic alteration to produce a new generation of humans. However, both illustrate a certain degree of fear of the outcome as well as the effects resulting from excessive genetic engineering on people. At the outset, evidence shows Dr Lamarââ¬â¢s battle within himself stating human nature as the problem. He says that creation of genetically superior society consequences to snatching away of the rights and dreams of the society born as ââ¬Å"God-children.â⬠This quote clearly illustrates the detrimental idealism behind genetic engineering. Realistically, the story in Gattaca mainly seeks to show how aspects of desire and heart prove to be immeasurable but in an ironic way. Moreover, Lenina in Brave New World quotes that everyone works for everyone else. This quote focuses on insisting on the neutrality of humans even with the attempts to create a difference through genetic alteration. Furthermore, this quote depicts the equality of both ââ¬Å"species,â⬠regardless of caste, to death. Moreover, Gattaca portrays a new world in which everybody, especially the successful, undergoes genetic alteration to perfect their DNA. Vincent further insists on the need for genetic alteration to become successful when he quotes that the normal humans who have not been genetically altered are outcasts with less capability in the real world.à Ã

Self-Disclosure Peer Review Essay Example for Free
Self-Disclosure Peer Review Essay In the field of psychiatry, self-disclosure is only limited on the side of the therapist because the purpose of the session is to elicit as much information as the therapist can from the client. This is necessary so as to effectively provide solutions for the clientââ¬â¢s psychological problems. If the therapist would inject self-disclosing moments during the session, this can either make the client feel insignificant and incompetent. However, if self-disclosure would be used appropriately, it can further enhance the session thus speeding up the process. In line with this, I think if a therapist decides to disclose personal experiences or information to the client, caution must always be in mind. Clients should be treated gently as if they are always in a vulnerable state. Through this, additional problems or conflicts can be prevented from manifesting. Post No. 2 by Meagan Bowser I agree with what the learner have posted about self-disclosure. This method should be utilized correctly and it should be implemented at the right time. Therapists must always put the clients first before themselves during sessions so as to emphasize that the focus are the clients and not the therapists. However, since people are distinct from one another using self-disclosure as a tool to resolve problems can have varying results. A certain approach for a specific client may not be applicable to another client. More so, is it appropriate for therapists to make up information in order to show empathy? For example, if a therapist has no experience or any idea about the situation of the client, can the therapists create fictional experiences so as to make the clients feel that they are not alone? Will this gesture be ethical or not?

Food Shortages :: essays papers
Food Shortages One of the most complex issues in the world today concerns human population. The number of people living off the earthââ¬â¢s resources and stressing its ecosystem has doubled in just forty years. In 1960 there were 3 billion of us; today there are 6 billion. We have no idea what maximum number of people the earth will support. Therefore, the very first question that comes into peopleââ¬â¢s mind is that are there enough food for all of us in the future? There is no answer for that. Food shortage has become a serious problem among many countries around the world. There are many different reasons why people are starving all over the world. The lack of economic justice and water shortages are just merely two examples out of them all. Danielle Knight stated that ââ¬Å"The true source of world hunger is not scarcity but policy; not inevitability but politics, the real culprits are economies that fail to offer everyone opportunities, and societies that place economic efficiency over compassion.â⬠The author is trying to say that, basically, world hunger is mainly caused by us humans. The world is providing more than enough food for each and every one of us on earth according to the report - 'World Hunger: Twelve Myths'. The problem is that there are so many people living in the third world countries who do not have the money to pay for readily available food. Even if their country has excess food, they still go hungry because of poverty. Since people are mistaken by ââ¬Å"scarcity is the real cause of this problemâ⬠, governments and institutions are starting to solve food shortage problems by increasing food production, while there really is an excess of food in some countries. Although the green revolu tion was a big success globally, hunger still exists in some countries. The author stated, ââ¬Å"Large farms, free-markets, free trade, and more aid from industrialized countries, have all been falsely touted as the ââ¬Ëcureââ¬â¢ to end hungerâ⬠. All of those are used to promote exports and food production, it doesnââ¬â¢t increase the poorââ¬â¢s ability to buy food he says. What the government really should do is to balance out the economy, and let more people earn more money to buy more foods. Sandra Postel, on the other hand, has a different opinion than Danielleââ¬â¢s. She proposed that ââ¬Å"without increasing water productivity in irrigation, major food-producing regions will not have enough water to sustain crop productionâ⬠. Edward and Adam role play Essay
The piece did not have a title. As it was an assignment we didnââ¬â¢t name our play. It is called Edward and Adam role play, because in this scenes we show when Edward has just been captured and he meets Adam for the first time. Edward is really confused, and when Adam try to calm him down, he thinks that Adam is an Arab whoââ¬â¢s there to beat him up again.à AIM OF THE PIECE: I think that the main aim of the piece is to show how two men kept in captivity would react when they meet for the first time. Adam is an American doctor, while Edward is an Irish journalist. Edward, is steady and thoughtful. A hard-living, hard-driven man, he is tormented by the regret that he has pushed away his wife and not taken the time to know his children, and now never may. He is a complex, charismatic, charming and irritating man, whose best weapons against despair and self-pity are quick jokes, biting humor and a healthy awareness of his failings. When Edward is being taking into the cell he tries to fight back, by spitting at the Arabs. The reaction of the Arabs is shown with violence, and Edward get beaten up. When Adam sees what is happening he tries to help the new arrived, but he gets beaten up as well. When Edward wakes up, he ears the voice of a stranger, that stranger is Adam, who is trying to reassure him that everything is fine. Edward first response is trying to get away from the chains, and trying to find a way out of the jail. When he finally realises that heââ¬â¢s locked up with a stranger, he starts screaming that heââ¬â¢s Irish, and that heââ¬â¢s country is neutral. In all this time Adam is trying to interrupt him, but Edward completely ignores him, until then he starts asking questions. What he hears, heââ¬â¢s not what he expected. In fact he has been told that he would stay in the cell for an indeterminate time. In the scene there isnââ¬â¢t much movement as they are both suppose to be chained up. The only movement we get in the scene is when Adam starts exercising, and tell Edward that he should do something as well, to keep his mind full. Edward is still really confuse and want to know more about his new ââ¬Å"friendâ⬠. He keeps on asking questions, and they start to know each other better. The scene finish up when Adam tells Edward that heââ¬â¢s not alone as he has got him to watch over him. We of course choose this ending by the title of the play. PRESENTATION: The piece has been presented well, and my partner and I have done a good job as the piece was understood by everyone in the audience. As we werenââ¬â¢t able to use the stage once more, we used another space in the room. We planned the scene carefully, and we decided to have Adam sitting down lining against the wall, reading the Koran. When Edward is coming in we have both of the characters trying to fight back the Arabs but as both get beaten up they faint. When Edward wakes up, heââ¬â¢s very scared as he founds out that he is chained. For a moment he thinks heââ¬â¢s dreaming, but when he realizes that that is reality, we can feel the stress and the fear coming out of his voice. Adam is tries his best to welcome him in the cell. But how can you make someone welcome when you are kept in chain? Edward is really stressed and keeps on asking more questions as he wants to know more about what itââ¬â¢s happening. After a while Adam start getting exercising, but this only makes Edward more confuse and makes him ask more questions. When the two men get to know each other more, Edward start to relax, and they start to talk normally and calmly, about everyday things, such as family, sports, jobs and so on.à For most of the scene the two men are sitting down lining on the wall, talking.à In this scene we had a big contrast between two different men, such as Adam and Edward.. Adam, is very calm, kind, and tries to reassure Edward. While Edward is very aggressive, as heââ¬â¢s just been captured, and in first place he thinks that Adam is an Arab, and he doesnââ¬â¢t trust him. STRENGTH AND WEAKNESSES: The piece strength as weaknesses as well. Once again I think that my partner and I have done a good job, because we have done a original piece, which I think has impressed the audience, as we have explored the inner side two men who meets for the first time in a situation of hostages. We wrote a script of the piece so that we would have been able to remember the piece. I think that the main strength of this piece is that I had the opportunity to work with the same partner, and we put very good ideas together. Some of the weaknesses of this piece were that we couldnââ¬â¢t act the piece on the stage, I think that it would have been more effective as we would have had more space, and we could have used the lights as well.à PROBLEMS I HAVE EXPERIENCED: The major problem in acting this piece was that I was suppose to calm down a man who has just been captured and thrown into a cell. I had to be very patient into the play as Edward kept on interrupting, and kept on asking questions.à Looking back at the play I think that I have done a good job into acting Adam, and I also enjoyed it.

Technology and Information Revolution - 598 Words
Technology and Information Revolution Introduction American families are going through significant social change as a result of the continued acceleration of information and technology. The most pervasive force in the disruptive social change American families are going through is the social network. Social media not only creates a more egalitarian society, it brings a level of real-time communication within families that didnt exist before. Analysis of How Technology Is Changing The American Family The combination of always-on social media, websites and sources of entertainment, in addition to the continual stream of communications from employers can create a highly information-congested lifestyle (Acello, 2012). The perception many have of how technology is affecting the American family is negative, with parents who have jobs continually being reminded of their work responsibilities through Blackberries, the thin Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) that are now ubiquitous in many companies (Acello, 2012). Many call them crackberries because it is commonplace to see dads and moms typing furiously into them as they are at soccer games, concerts or other family events. This always-on nature of work is changing the social fabric of the American family by making the line between professional and personal lives more blurred.
